Hi all...

8 weeks ago my 11 year old daughter was on her way back from school...
(literally in her 6th week of her new secondary school)... she was hit by an overtaking van which she didn't see.

She sustained life threatening injuries.. was in a coma for 5 days, hospital for a few weeks.. has broken bones and a permenant brain injury.

Were working with the Child Brain Injury Trust and maybe its that.. hearing more stories of similair accidents with kids.. or being more aware.. but the amount of kids being seriously/ life changingly injured.. or even worse.. fatally injured just seems to be increasing!

I have therefore created a government petition to change traffic laws to ensure drivers wait behind a stopped school bus when children are boarding or exiting, therefore hopefully reducing the risks to children greatly, similair to the US and Canada.

I would hate to see another family go through what my family did 2 months ago and what many families are still going through now.

If you agree with me.. then sign the petition.....

It will take literally less than 2 mins out of your day to sign and share the petition (pls share from the orig post) and hopefully make our country a much safer place for our kids.

C'mon eople.. lets make a change for the better! X

School buses in the UK should only ever stop at an official bus stop. Many children travel on local buses. Private school buses tend to be coaches from private firms. I am not sure how a law could be drafted and enforced without a change in the school transport system and a culture change.
I am so sorry about what happened to your child OP.
The standard of driving in this country is getting worse and we need a much tougher approach to dangerous driving.
My child was injured by a dangerous driver - it was totally his fault. The police just let him leave the scene. He subsequently admitted that he had not read the highway code and was not aware of traffic regulations in England. He had therefore driven straight onto a roundabout at speed without stopping or looking to his right. Smashed right into my car which was correctly placed on the roundabout. My car was written off.

Dear me thats ridiculous thats he got away with that!

Yes he signage needs to be so much better On school busses.. we could learn a thing or two from the likes of Canada and the US.. School busses are clear with lights and stop signs on.
the number of parents contacting me sharing similair stories to ours is just scary!..
