Noah Donohoe: the latest news is very bad

Many Mumsnetters will have already seen and kindly supported my threads and those of others about the disappearance and death of young Noah Donohoe in Belfast in June 2020. For those who haven't, Noah's naked body was retrieved from a drain after he had been missing for 6 days. Two years later, his grieving mother Fiona, with her sister Niamh at her side, is still having to fight for the truth about her adored son's disappearance and death and for justice for him.

Yesterday, Fiona was given official notice by the government/NIO that a Public Interest Immunity Certificate has been granted. It was signed by the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire. This means that the police/PSNI are allowed to keep hundreds of pages of information from their botched investigation into the disappearance and death of this innocent and precious child secret. It was received by the police/PSNI and Crown Solicitors Office on the 19th July and his mother was not told for over a week.

Mr Vara was appointed after Brandon Lewis resigned from Boris Johnson's cabinet. He has only been in his post as NI Secretary for two weeks. This is not a good start. Signing the PII Certificate so swiftly indicates to me that he has not taken due time and care to learn all the facts in Noah's case. I think anyone who concludes from this that Mr Vara is just a government and police puppet could be forgiven.

For those Mumsnetters not in Northern Ireland who believe that PII Certificates don't concern you, a PII Certificate application from the police/PSNI protected Robert Howard, a known prolific and violent child killer and rapist. It allowed him to travel to England, Scotland and Ireland. He was only brought to justice when he raped and killed a child in Kent. This is only one example of many.

If you are not outraged, then you have not been paying attention. What can you do? Please think about this and do what you can. Whatever has happened we need to be accountable for our failings. No good ever came from secrecy.

Fiona deserves answers & this has already gone on for too long

This has broken my heart in so many ways, since the day it was reported he was missing. I remember at the time driving around before he was found looking at every Bush and corner I drove past just in case. When he was found I thought surely some answers are due, this is horrific, someone must have done this and then.. nothing, no answers, what appeared no real investigation. Every single person I knew all said this wasn't right, how could this be? His poor mother and family, how is this justice? Today I drive past his posters wishing there was something I can do other than sign petitions. He was found very close to where I live and I well up everytime. I think, if I feel this much anger and injustice for the lack of answers and sadness for his loss I can't comprehend what his mother must feel.
I hope with all my heart that something comes to light, that someone in the media takes this on, the government take note and answers start coming but I think truly there is a long road to go yet.

Its awful and disgraceful. Please give my love to Noah's family. Have you/they been in touch with Harry Dunn's family at all? A different tragic death but some similar battles over cover-ups afterwards. I don't know if there is anything each could share to help support and get answers.

The Harry Dunn situation is an utter pisstake. The fact that there's no ambiguity that he was killed by the defendant driving on the wrong side of the road, and yet the US refuses to take action. I can't help but feel it would've gone down differently if a UK citizen had killed an American and done a runner back home.

The PSNI/police, the coroner and the government have shot themselves in the foot with the granting of the PII Certificate in the death of an innocent child. It has only increased disbelief, attention and public outrage about the handling of Noah's disappearance and death, and about the treatment of Fiona, his mother.

This case makes me feel ill

Such a distressing story, what on earth is going on?

Noah's mummy Fiona wants everyone to know the facts as far as she is able. Together with her trusted sister Niamh and the legal team, Fiona has gone through the disclosures from the police/PSNI with a fine tooth comb over untold hours. They and the coroner threaten her with 'contempt of court,' trying to scare her into silence. She will not stay silent about the facts - because she is not part of their corrupt system. She is thinking only of what is in Noah's best interests, of justice for Noah and getting to the truth, and of other children who have been harmed and others who will be harmed in the future unless things change.

Based on a short CCTV clip shown by the police to Fiona from the Sunday at 6.11pm on Northwood Road, a residential cul-de-sac, Noah disappeared, naked, exhausted and distressed. The police have changed the timings of CCTV several times. It took residents 24hrs to report sightings of a naked child on their street and the finding of his bike, despite widespread press and social media appeals.

So here are just some of facts, from Fiona:
On the Tuesday, the police/PSNI were still refusing to search any houses on that road, where some of Noah's clothing was also found. They even said that Fiona would have to ask residents for permission for their houses to be searched, which she did. They even stood watching and allowed the lorries to empty the bins as usual.* *On the Friday it was a very different story from the PSNI: a meeting was held and the police announced that they would be going in and searching houses in Northwood Road and nearby Premier Drive the next day with a warrant - a very stark difference to their attitude on Tuesday, so what had changed? The next morning, before those searches could take place, Noah's naked body was retrieved from a drain 950m away. The police had the intelligence (meaning information) needed to get warrants to search those houses on two roads and they had the intelligence (again, meaning information) to know that Noah's body would be found in the drain - what was that intelligence?

There are many decent people living in that area and on those streets - it is very important to stress that. These people also care about Noah. But what of the minority of others? Given the facts and the presence of intelligence, Fiona asks about the claims that unless Noah's body was given up, the police would go in and break up the drug and prostitution dens. She notes the suicide on the night Noah's body was retrieved. There are so many other facts and questions, and I would urge people to read the Twitter thread from my OP and watch Fiona's podcast.

The facts show Fiona an absolutely diabolical investigation by the police. The facts are disturbing and concerning. The facts keep her up at night. If these are the facts, what is being kept from her?

Fiona says, to the minority complaining about and warning against discussion about the disappearance and death of her child:
'The only people investigating this case are Noah's legal team and mother and aunt, so no one should keep quiet. If we kept quiet the corrupt system would once again get away with incompetence.'

Fiona is not being led anywhere or influenced by anyone. Fiona, Niamh and the expert legal team are the ones leading, and working hard for the truth and for justice for Noah. They deserve and need our support.

It just all stinks. The more I reread it the more it skinks.
Why would the police announce that they were going to search houses? Surely they would just turn up with a warrant! To announce it just allows evidence to be moved or destroyed.
I don't think it's any coincidence that he was found before those searches took place.

Is that what's being covered up? Possibly because of police involvement within this criminality? If they know there's drugs in those houses why they hell are they not dealing with that?

I really wish I could believe that this is being covered up temporarily as part of some larger ongoing investigation into organised crime or something. But if that were the case surely they could just tell Fiona that - we can't tell you what happened right now but you will have all the facts in the future. But I just don't see that as being the case here. It's screams corruption and collusion.

@MNettersForNoahAndFiona you mention a suicide on the night Noah was found. Was that the police stating that was what they had decided happened for Noah or in relation to someone else?

It was somebody else, @Dobbysgotthesocks - the question Fiona asks is whether it was in any way related to Noah's disappearance and death, and to the intelligence/information the police/PSNI had, as some claim. I have to repeat, question.

The police/PSNI have themselves speculated rather a lot, so it is a bit rich that they threaten and object so strongly when anybody else does. Without evidence, they speculated in public and in the media that Noah might have bumped his head when falling from his bike and that therefore a concussion might be responsible for everything that happened to Noah. This is despite Noah wearing a helmet and the witness, who saw him fall from his bike, get straight back on again and cycle off, saying that he had not bumped his head. And yes, without evidence, they also unfortunately speculated that Noah might have suffered a sudden episode of mental ill health or intended to take his own life - everything that is known about Noah from all of his life by everybody - his family, his friends, his teachers - completely contradicts this. Why would a young teenage boy take off all his clothes in public? How would he know about this drain, when he did not know the area and when even many of the locals did not know it existed? How did he manage to travel 950m inside the drain from Northwood Road in the dark when he was afraid of the dark, in very difficult, narrow, rough, obstructed terrain, and without his body looking like it had done so and had then spent six days and nights in a wet, bacterium and vermin-infested environment? None of the police/PSNI speculation is credible.

And I totally agree that nothing the police are saying is credible. There is no way Noah entered that drain of his own accord. Nor was it possible that he was in the drain for 6 days.

How do the police account for the fact that the drain isn't accessible from Northwood road? There's no way Noah knew it was there and no way he would have stumbled upon it either as it doesn't appear there's any gaps between the houses.

The police/PSNI claim that Noah must have got over some difficult fences @Dobbysgotthesocks . Don't forget that he was already running naked and exhausted when he was meant to be doing this. Why, and why would he go into this drain, even if he 'stumbled across it'? Add to this that the drain cover nearest to Northwood Road is meant to be padlocked. The police speculate that the padlock must have mistakenly been left off after a maintenance inspection, so that when Noah 'stumbled across it', he was able to gain access. Would you believe that the police ordered that a new padlock be put on, while Noah was still missing?

@MNettersForNoahAndFiona so he got over two six foot fences completely naked without injuring himself? No chance! Fence panels give splinters if nothing else. I just don't believe it.

And even if he did. Why? People with concussions don't climb fences and hide in storm drains. They take the path of least resistance. He would have run back the way he came. Ditto mental illness it just is so unlikely it's inconceivable.
Chuck in the two men Noah was seen heading towards in Northwood road and there's just no way the story rings true.

If he really did go over those fences he must have been chased. Same with the storm drain though I do not believe he entered the storm drain alive.
