Noah Donohoe: the latest news is very bad

Many Mumsnetters will have already seen and kindly supported my threads and those of others about the disappearance and death of young Noah Donohoe in Belfast in June 2020. For those who haven't, Noah's naked body was retrieved from a drain after he had been missing for 6 days. Two years later, his grieving mother Fiona, with her sister Niamh at her side, is still having to fight for the truth about her adored son's disappearance and death and for justice for him.

Yesterday, Fiona was given official notice by the government/NIO that a Public Interest Immunity Certificate has been granted. It was signed by the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire. This means that the police/PSNI are allowed to keep hundreds of pages of information from their botched investigation into the disappearance and death of this innocent and precious child secret. It was received by the police/PSNI and Crown Solicitors Office on the 19th July and his mother was not told for over a week.

Mr Vara was appointed after Brandon Lewis resigned from Boris Johnson's cabinet. He has only been in his post as NI Secretary for two weeks. This is not a good start. Signing the PII Certificate so swiftly indicates to me that he has not taken due time and care to learn all the facts in Noah's case. I think anyone who concludes from this that Mr Vara is just a government and police puppet could be forgiven.

For those Mumsnetters not in Northern Ireland who believe that PII Certificates don't concern you, a PII Certificate application from the police/PSNI protected Robert Howard, a known prolific and violent child killer and rapist. It allowed him to travel to England, Scotland and Ireland. He was only brought to justice when he raped and killed a child in Kent. This is only one example of many.

If you are not outraged, then you have not been paying attention. What can you do? Please think about this and do what you can. Please join us in raising awareness about Noah on social media, with your own government representatives and mainstream media. If you want to contact Shailesh Vara directly about Noah's case:

Thank you sincerely for reading and for your support. 💙

TLDR:
As Marion Wright Edelman said, if we don't stand up for children, then we don't stand for much. Shame on you, Shailesh Vara. AIBU?

And this is 2022. Not 1722. Heartbreaking. I pray 🙏🏾 tomorrow has news. A positive news at that! 💙

EmeraldShamrock1 · 24/10/2022 22:48

This is unbelievable.

I cannot understand how they're getting away with hiding details about a young boy's life and his death.

There are no words.

Sending love to Fiona and Niamh.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 24/10/2022 22:49

Justice for Noah. 💙

Thinking of the Donohoe family today.

It's heartbreaking what they've had to endure at the hands of the police, coroner and all the other snakes involved.

SolviturAmbulando · 27/10/2022 13:22

From Niamh Donohoe:
'We are reluctantly preparing ourselves for court (an ordeal in itself). No one will ever understand the toll these days take, on Fiona especially. At the moment we both feel battered and exhausted, we already feel defeated in our fight for a jury and fear the coroner has made his decision to refuse Noah's inquest this opportunity. We will not spend a minute longer than we have to in courts allowing Noah's life & memory to be decimated. We will give you your stage momentarily and then we are done listening to you. Over 2yrs we have given our whole lives to Noah's fight & have got nowhere. Fighting everyone to listen to us & to help.

On Fiona's birthday yesterday instead of celebrating we both cried down the phone because we feel so helpless against this corrupt system at times. However, one thing we both agree, my sister and I won't ever stop fighting for Noah💙 & our babies. Noah's death must be the catalyst for change; no family can ever be allowed to suffer like this again & a child's life can never be sacrificed at the altar of the peace process. Our beautiful boy's life mattered, all children's lives matter.

Noah's Army, we need you now more than ever...Be Noah's voice...shout his name.

I hope at court the right decision regarding a jury is delivered. I promise we will take to the streets in our thousands again & again until we get what Noah deserves & justice. We will bring Belfast to a standstill repeatedly until the truth comes out.

Sitting back waiting on this farcical legal process to evolve has got us nowhere.
We are Noah's voice; we will make noise. Noah will be heard, and the truth will come out.'

@EmeraldShamrock1 @MadeForThis @Lndnmummy 💙

This is a historic decision being given today and I believe it will be a pivotal moment, one way or another.

Even though this Court date has been given at very short notice and is in the middle of the working week for many, I know that some Mumsnetters will be there in person to witness it and to support Fiona and Niamh. Children welcome, as ever. I know that many more Mumsnetters will be there in spirit too.

Lndnmummy · 27/10/2022 14:49

Noah matters 💙

SolviturAmbulando · 27/10/2022 16:14

'WE HAVE BEEN ALLOWED A JURY FOR NOAH'S INQUEST. We are so grateful to Noah's legal team & the coroner. We went in defeated & have left grateful beyond words. Such an unexpected victory for Noah. Emotional, exhausted & feeling able to fight on knowing the right decision was made.'

A little victory and one that should have be automatic rather than hard fought.

I hope this brings some comfort to Fiona, Niamh and family.
