Noah Donohoe: the latest news is very bad

MNettersForNoahAndFiona · 28/07/2022 14:47

Many Mumsnetters will have already seen and kindly supported my threads and those of others about the disappearance and death of young Noah Donohoe in Belfast in June 2020. For those who haven't, Noah's naked body was retrieved from a drain after he had been missing for 6 days. Two years later, his grieving mother Fiona, with her sister Niamh at her side, is still having to fight for the truth about her adored son's disappearance and death and for justice for him.

Yesterday, Fiona was given official notice by the government/NIO that a Public Interest Immunity Certificate has been granted. It was signed by the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Shailesh Vara, MP for North West Cambridgeshire. This means that the police/PSNI are allowed to keep hundreds of pages of information from their botched investigation into the disappearance and death of this innocent and precious child secret. It was received by the police/PSNI and Crown Solicitors Office on the 19th July and his mother was not told for over a week.

Mr Vara was appointed after Brandon Lewis resigned from Boris Johnson's cabinet. He has only been in his post as NI Secretary for two weeks. This is not a good start. Signing the PII Certificate so swiftly indicates to me that he has not taken due time and care to learn all the facts in Noah's case. I think anyone who concludes from this that Mr Vara is just a government and police puppet could be forgiven.

For those Mumsnetters not in Northern Ireland who believe that PII Certificates don't concern you, a PII Certificate application from the police/PSNI protected Robert Howard, a known prolific and violent child killer and rapist. It allowed him to travel to England, Scotland and Ireland. He was only brought to justice when he raped and killed a child in Kent. This is only one example of many.

If you are not outraged, then you have not been paying attention. What can you do? Please think about this and do what you can. Please join us in raising awareness about Noah on social media, with your own government representatives and mainstream media. If you want to contact Shailesh Vara directly about Noah's case:

Here is a factual and reliable pinned Twitter thread for people new to Noah's story or wanting to know more:

Here is Fiona's podcast:

Here is a Channel 4 News report: www.channel4.com/news/noah-donohoe-family-seek-answers-over-belfast-teenagers-death And please, if you haven't already, do still join the 309,146 people who have showed they care by signing Fiona's petition. Thank you sincerely for reading and for your support. 💙

TLDR:
As Marion Wright Edelman said, if we don't stand up for children, then we don't stand for much. Shame on you, Shailesh Vara. AIBU?

Please do join the rally in Belfast at 1pm at City Hall tomorrow if you possibly can. Please don't leave it to other people to swell the numbers on your behalf. If everyone thought like that, nobody would be there. Please come and stand up for Noah, stand with Fiona and Niamh, and stand up for all children. As Noah's auntie Niamh says, 'Everyone is welcome to show their support on Saturday. All parties, all cultures & religions. Noah's Army & the fight for truth & justice is inclusive of all.'

Feet on the street tomorrow in support of the Donohoe family.

Great news the KRW Law Human Rights have spoken out against the injustice.

Take care for tomorrow, hope its a great turn out.

vivainsomnia · 12/08/2022 22:21

On the contrary, it is not possible to campaign for justice AND truth whilst standing with SF/PIRA who actively deny justice to others
And here we go again! How many times are you going to repeat the same thing for it to be ignored by all before you realise here is not the place.

Go post your own thread in Politics. Open your eyes, not all share the same beliefs as yours, and this is not the place to have this discussion.

One cannot campaign for justice AND truth whilst standing with SF/PIRA who actively deny justice to others

Of course they can. Most supporters of the campaign do not care about the political involvement now, let alone in the past and those who do are able to put it aside to fight for what is about discovering what happened to an innocent child.

@DownNative, I have found your posts very offensive. You have gone on and on repeating the same thing. This thread is not about political parties and who's done what in the past. OP has been extremely patient and respectful in responding and asking you to take your political concerns elsewhere yet you just keep coming back, why?

Not everything happening in NI evolves around political divergence and history, at least I hope not. Here is a mum who has no interest in it but desperately wants the truth about her child's death as every mum in the world would. Why can't you respect this?

Thank you for your post @vivainsomnia . My heart sank when I read it. Not for what you said, which I am very grateful for, but that the poster in question had been @'d because I knew it would only draw them back to the thread. It has long passed the stage where I would block them if I could. Thank you again for your support. 💙

One can only respect and follow Fiona's dignified brave actions in the fight for answers for her beautiful boy.

Night everyone, thinking of the Donohoe family tonight and looking forward to supporting them tomorrow.

Noah Donohoe's family releases statement ahead of Belfast city centre protest
www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/noah-donohoes-family-release-statement-24742546
"I'd like to firstly reiterate our complete gratitude at the swell of support around the worrying use of PII," Noah's aunt Niamh Donohoe said.
"The fact we are not screaming into the abyss alone is a huge comfort and support to us. People finally see the injustice of a lot of decisions being made in Noah's Case.
"Tomorrow is a gathering of Noah's Army from all across the globe, people have extended trips from NYC to be here, are travelling from across the pond and from all counties of our beautiful island. Each and every one of you are making a difference and impact. You are Noah's Voice.
"To all our friends in Noah's Army who can't be with us, we know you will be in spirit and will watch with pride as a community of amazing humans send out a strong message to those who need to see it.
"Please remember this is not a march. We are asking people to stand with us at Belfast City Hall at 1pm. There will be a few key speakers talking about the PII issue and because of time constraints on a gathering of that size we will ask the crowd to disperse safely and quickly at the end.
"We hope to keep you all no longer than an hour, it's the solidarity and the volume of people coming together that will have the impact, not the duration of the stand. Saturday's weather will be warm again so please be aware and take precautions.
"Thank you to everyone involved over the past two years especially Noah's Army you all make the difference."
