Children being made to wear masks

I think it’s a terrible precedent to set. This will affect their emotional development and mental health. What will the long term effects be? Nobody knows. This is hell

Why?

herecomesthsun · 06/03/2021 19:45

I think it is a wonderful thing that we are taking this seriously. No evidence of harm. Masks are used widely in Japan, South Korea etc., very helpful to support kids returning to school.

Crumpledandcreased · 06/03/2021 19:47

How do you think it's going to affect their emotional development?

Blueberries0112 · 06/03/2021 19:48

I don’t know but most of the public schools here are making kids wear masks and have been doing so since September. Unless they are outdoors

Gerla · 06/03/2021 19:49

My kids have been wearing masks since September. Obviously they would prefer not to but there are worse things about this crisis than the masks.

ChaBishkoot · 06/03/2021 19:49

Mine have been wearing them since April of last year. (Not in the UK). They are 9 and 4. Nothing has happened to their emotional development. But with mask mitigation and plexiglass they have been in school all year. They could not care less about the mask. And we didn’t have an extra wave over winter and no additional lockdown.

tilder · 06/03/2021 19:50

Given the way the last year has gone, I really don't think a bit of fabric will be the end of the world.

Anything to reduce transmission and keep them in school.

ChaBishkoot · 06/03/2021 19:51

And all their friends and every child I know has been wearing them. I have to say I don’t get the anti mask hysteria in the UK. I heard someone refer to it as a ‘face nappy.’ There are not enough eye rolls.

Btw the 4 year old was on a ventilator as a baby, has asthma and is on long term steroids. And still manages to wear a mask with zero issues.

Viviennemary · 06/03/2021 19:54

Be glad they weren't born during the war. It would have been gas masks and air raid shelters with bombs raining down.

isitjustlockdown · 06/03/2021 19:57

There is a petitions section.

It's a mask ffs, not a torture device (not applicable to those with genuine conditions/trauma obviously).

PotteringAlong · 06/03/2021 19:59

My kids wear masks all the time. They are fine. As are kids in every other county who make them wear them. They will be fine. Especially if their parents don’t make it into a massive deal.

VerbenaGirl · 06/03/2021 19:59

My DDs’ school implemented masks at all times back in November. There’s a fair few things related to this global pandemic which will have deeply affected children, but I wouldn’t say that masks can be singled out as particularly damaging. I think that children are pretty good at appreciating the fact that masks are one of the tools that is helping to keep as many people as possible safe.

pickingdaisies · 06/03/2021 19:59

Hell?

VerbenaGirl · 06/03/2021 20:01

My DD is more traumatised by having to wear tights during the winter (school requirement), as she really hates them!

ChameleonClara · 06/03/2021 20:03

FFS, 15% of children who catch covid go on to have long covid. Some have really bad symptoms

Wearing masks doesn't seem to damage children elsewhere.

I'm tired of this anti-scientific nonsense.

LadyPenelope68 · 06/03/2021 20:04

It’s a bit if fabric, it’s not going to impact on their emotional development 🤣🤣🤣 get real!
They manage it in many other countries, even at primary age, it’s only in the U.K. where parents think their children are such special snowflakes.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 06/03/2021 20:08

What would you prefer, OP? That children remain off school for the foreseeable?

HazeyJaneII · 06/03/2021 20:08

I didnt think it was mandatory

Many public schools have had face masks throughout the school day since September

Most children will be fine wearing masks - there will be individuals who may struggle and they can have that conversation with school.

I think my teenagers would disagree with 'this is hell'- they have seen their brother struggling for breath, and going off in an ambulance - they want to help protect him and others like him, and if wearing a mask helps in protecting others they want to do it.

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/03/2021 20:09

The petition end date is Sept 2021, that is quite a long time away. Just saying.

StepOutOfLine · 06/03/2021 20:12

Hell is fools not realising that the longer they refuse to do things to protect their own health and that of others, the more emotionally scarred those children they're so keen to protect will be.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 06/03/2021 20:16

My DC (at primary school) have worn masks and are perfectly fine with it. We got them to choose their own and made a game of it (they pretend they are ninjas or spies). You are the one making a drama out of it Hmm

JustDavesWife · 06/03/2021 20:30

I don't think a piece of fabric is going to seriously damage them, my kids would rather wear a mask and be back in school.

Stickytreacle · 07/03/2021 10:37

Can't understand the drama being created over kids wearing masks. If you want to protect society, and return to normality asap, then use the measures that will help to achieve that. No brainer really.
