I am drawing your attention to a petition calling on the government to waive the cost of citizenship applications for children.
The current cost - of £1,012 per application - is five times the European average and £640 higher than the cost incurred by the Home Office to process the application.
Without citizenship, these children's access to higher education is all but impossible as they become ineligible for any forms of student loan and will be forced to pay international student fees (made worse when you consider many of these children were born in this country). They are unable to join their friends on school trips and are deprived of certain job opportunities in later life.
Parents are being forced into debt, arrears and sometimes even having to prioritise which child they can afford to bestow the citizenship status that is rightfully theirs.
