Please can people sign Martyn Hetts Mums petition and share to make it mandatory to improve security measures at large entertainment venues and make it mandatory to do bag checks and have at least hand held metal detectors.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, not sure where to put it.

That should be a clicky link. I’ll sign it now.

Thank you Sylvia! I can never figure out how to do it on my phone.

Hi there everyone,

We're just moving this over to petitions...

Whilst I do sympathise wholeheartedly with her (Martyn was a relation of a colleague of dh's) increased checks would not have helped in this instance as the bomber was waiting in a public area.

Also what good would hand held metal detectors do apart from show up everyones belts, jewellry etc. At an airport there are the facilities to remove items, have full searches etc. I have had my bag checked many times in theatres and football grounds but are the staff really trained (they had dogs at Hamilton mind)

I understand what you are saying Alexander and as someone who was in the arena last May I know he was in a public area but from what I have seen on her social media this is in response to not necessarily the original attack but going to another large local theatre recently and having no bag or security checks at all.
So in reality a person could walk in to a few thousand seat theatre with knives or anything at all with is a scary thought.

Ironically the arena in question now has those metal detectors, bag checks etc and has closed that public area off.
