Stop My Home Being Demolished!

Haringey council want to demolish my house, as part of the redevelopment of Wood Green. Removing my street will allegedly improve the view of Alexandra Palace from the high street.

I think there is already sufficient unused or non residential space to allow redevelopment locally without knocking down period properties, and anyway, improving a view does not justify forcing families from their homes.

Also, has anyone else faced a CPO? How did you challenge the process?

We have written a response to the council, have met with councillors and our MP as well as starting our petition- is there anything else we should do?

Any advice about helping the kids deal with it? Dd's are 9 and 6. We've tried to give them some age appropriate info whilst reassuring them even if we have to move it will be ok, but they are picking up on our stress. Youngest dd upset about possibility of the garden being flattened :-(

Signed, I agree with the comment that London needs more houses, not less. This is awful for you .i also can't believe they wish to demolish those houses .😔

If it's any consolation and I don't mean this flippantly, CPOs are normally very generous. I know that makes no difference if you don't want to leave but it is a little something.

People have been so nice about it and that really helps. We have only been here 6 months (didn't show up on searches) and really thought it would be our forever home....

Also we have met some lovely neighbours who I didn't know before.

DH is really throwing himself into campaigning - am slightly worried his next move will be to try to run for local council elections or something equally drastic

Bluntness- thank you for the encouragement re CPOs. From reading about them I found something suggesting they are not generous, but a colleague also told me about s friend where it had worked out well.

But we are still fighting!

Any first hand experience? Still keen for any advice, as well as getting the petition signed

God it's terrifying that councils can basically just bulldoze your homes if they don't fit into their wider (£££) plan. Most councils are in bed with developers I reckon so whose interest is this serving?

Actually I could do more of an update- we had some local councillors visit yesterday and take a photo to tweet and the evening standard came to take a photo later on - dd's were very smiley and had to be prompted by the photographer to do a "sad face"!

So at least the story is getting out there. This week we have a meeting for affected residents with the head of the project, fingers crossed it goes well...
