Reduce baby deaths and disablity by testing for GBS in pregnancy

Group B Strep is the UK’s most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies. Antibiotics in labour to Mums would prevent most of these infections. Women in the USA and many other European countries are routinely tested for GBS during pregnancy. This testing is not carried out on the NHS in the UK, leaving babies at risk of contracting an infection which can lead to permanent disability and death.

Our daughter died as a result of a GBS infection. By signing and sharing this petition you could help prevent other babies dying. Please sign now, this petition closes on 10th February 2015.

Sorry to read your daughter died. I saw a newspaper article tonight about another who lost her daughter too. I would hope that more people see the petition as the deadline is so close.

Incidentally, I just saw a (recent, like 5 - 10 days old) thread where someone says that it is routinely tested for, but it sounds like it's a lot more 'hit and miss' or may depend on which region / locality one is in.

Would hate to think that just because some decision-maker says not to test, a number of babies die. So sad.
