Last year the school approved five days for 5yo DS at the very end of the summer term. DH can't get leave in the school holidays and we chose the very last week of the summer term as it's the least disruptive. They said it was classed as exceptional circumstances and approved it. This year it's been declined because it's not exceptional circumstances, even though it's the exact same situation

Ive signed. No doubt someone will be along soon to tell me 'I should cut my cloth accordingly and camp in October in the pissing rain'
I work for myself and can't fit holidays in at the best of times let alone school hols!

It refers to children with good attendance records.

That'll exclude any unfortunate enough to have been ill, and keep it totally out of reach of those with chronic conditions. I will not sign something worded in such a divisive way.

How is it divisive? Our school makes allowances for those with chronic conditions and children who are ill get it out down as authorised. DS had a vomiting bug and because I rang him in sick it went down as authorised absence and he still got his good attendance certificate.

Mine has SN. Because this there are many hospital, therapist and doctors appointments we have to attend. Each meaning a morning, an afternoon or an entire day off because of it.

Despite being in school every single day when not at an appointment, he's NEVER had a good attendance certificate. When it's recognised that these are not days off, they are essential, then I'll sign, but at the moment he's treated by the system as a poor attender, even though his teachers know different and spoil him in other ways . We've got no hope of getting holidays authorised, even if it means he'll be better with a quieter crowd. When situations like ours are included then I'll sign.

Not all schools do it that way, Bearfrills. It may be Authorised but the percentage absence is still taken into account and letters sent home. Helpfully these letters are on Green/Amber/Red paper because a Traffic light system is notoriously well known for helping parents ensure their DC aren't ever ill
