Petition against routinely arming police officers

Those of you against routinely arming police officers, especially in the Highlands, can you sign our petition at //www.inverness-courier.co.uk? Highland Council wants a review and our newspaper photographed three officers with side-arms recently going to a disturbance at McDonald's in Inverness High Street. No guns were needed. There have also been sightings of officers filling up with petrol, buying lunch and at a charity bike challenge, all armed. Thank you if you do sign and agree.

Can I ask why you are against this?

I'm sure they were armed for a reason (also, are you sure they weren't teasers?). That is nothing to do with routinely arming officers.

Tasers, not teasers. That would be a different thread altogether!

Armed police need to be on duty, thankfully they are very rarely needed for the "armed" bit of their job. Why shouldn't they respond to other police calls when they are on duty. Should they be paid just to sit in a police station until they are needed? Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I think we need more armed police. Especially in larger cities where gun crime is now the norm.

No guns were needed

How do you know no guns were needed btw?

Our officers need to be prepared for any incident. Why make them more powerless.
