Is asking for sponsors inappropriate?

I've been a MNer under a few different names for a couple of years now and I'm cycling to fundraise for great ormond street.

Would it be inappropriate or against MN rules to post my just giving page to see if any MNers would like to sponsor?

I do remember a MNer saying she wanted to sponsor me months ago when asking for help to decide which charity to raise money for. I'll have to find out the old thread and find her!

set up a justgiving page? doesn't it go straight to the charity on behalf of the person so its not a con?
