"Practiced my spellings" - school haven't practised theirs obviously

DS has come back from school (YR 1) with a new homework folder - there is an aide-memoire sticker on the front saying

I have

• Done my homework sheets
• Filled in my Learning Record
• Practiced my spellings
• Done my computer work

So do I discreetly change it, obviously change it, or leave it?

DO NOT POINT THIS OUT TO THE TEACHER IN PERSON. She will forever think of your DS1 as the spawn of that fussy woman.

I'd suggest making a nice little tin marked 'spellings' and placing inside one starter word 'practised'. Leave the tin on the teacher's desk, anonymously of course. DO NOT let your DS see you with the tin ever as he is very likely to dob you in with; "That's my Mummy's tin."

If your son is the rear legs of the ox in the forthcoming nativity you'll, know that the school do have CCTV.

There is a big sign in the gym hall of my DD's soon-to-be school requesting "BE CAREFUL WHEN YOUR WALKING THROUGH HERE" . I couldn't give a monkeys about this sort of thing normally but I think primary teachers ought to be able to spell really. I don't know what to do as I do not want PFB marked out either.

I suppose you could make a jokey comment about MS Word changing spellings that are correct........... difficult

Not really spelling issue, but all the external doors at my DS's school say 'This door is alarmed'.

I always want to pat them and tell them not to worry

or the advice on the tops of jars with tamper buttons "reject if can be depressed" - well surely rejection will just make it worse!

I think Mumsnet should produce a spelling and grammar guide which could be sent anonymously to any school that is having these problems. It would be a useful service all round.
