Any London pedants travel on the Northern Line?

...and feel like screaming every time the woman making those automated announcements says 'The next station will be Highget'. Have you ever heard anyone else, ever, pronounce Highgate as 'Highget? Ever^? No! Of course you haven't. It's wrong. And it does my head in.

Rant over.

It's like the Mazda car advert when that flippin' child says ' zum zum' at the end. Aargh!

You could shout ' Highgate' back at her like I do 'zoom zoom' at the telly.You may even get a seat that way

I think some of the people who live in Highgate probably pronounce it Hayget.

Funny, I was just talking to someone about that last night...

They'd only pronounce it that way if they were from Highgate by way of Bearsden.

Automatic train announcement had a fault last month where it had a stutter and kept restarting the same message again and again; the train had pulled out of the station again by the time the announcement had got to the end of saying where we were.

Days before, the Jubilee Line on-train announcements had a fault where nothing was said for most of the journey and then it gave out the arrival announcements for the last half a dozen or more stations when it reached Canning Town.

Yes. I've always been about High-get but it could be how some residents say it - I live at the bottom of the hill so say Eyegate and doff my cap innit.

I'm not sure squeaver - I don't go south of the river at this time of night.

I will check out the locals' pronunciation next time I'm up there cleaning robbing going to the pub.

The Northern Line trains are small. That is my observation. The District and Circle and Met and Ham lines have much bigger trains. Bigger tunnels I suppose. Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.
