It's Tesco. Not Tesco's. Grrrr.

This annoys me greatly.
"I'm just off to Tesco's".
Acceptable for Sainsbury's. Which does actually have an s. But really, the shop is called Tesco.

My mum always says Tesco's and it drives me mad. She used to say Safeway's too!!

Oh come on! This is too pedantic even for pedants' corner.

I consider this to be one of those nice English quirks we have agreed on as a nation akin to putting a 'the' in front of certain roads and places like the Old Kent Road and the Elephant and Castle but never the Gloucester Road or the Mayfair. It's just one of those querks and the rules say that Tesco's is fine.

You can't say Waitrose's or Asda's but we all know Tesco's is perfectly acceptable.

I know people who do say ASDAS

I know people that call its Asdas too!

People here go to "the Asda"

No, Tesco's is fine. ('Tescos' is NOT fine.)

Asdas and Tescos is normal here, and Aldis. As in 'the store that belongs to Mr Tesco' I think, not that Mr Tesco owns it, it's just a quirk of the language, like spidermama says$.
