Guerilla Grammar - am I insane to have done this?!

Firstly, apologies if I've spelled 'guerilla' incorrectly!

Secondly, a major bugbear of mine is the substitution of 'less' for 'fewer'

so

I was at the council offices this morning getting some parking permits and while the girl was getting them I noticed on the desk a pile of surveys for people to fill in with an instruction [for the official] that each office must collect no less than 200 surveys etc etc. And I found my pen and on the top copy crossed out 'less' and wrote 'fewer' above it. I did it twice but then the girl came back and I had to stop.

It felt fabulous, but I'm insane, aren't I?

There should be more of us!

Hope it was a red one! Insane

flamingobingo · 13/05/2009 11:52

Yay! Take a red pen with you wherever you go

Frivol · 13/05/2009 11:54

i do this.

i remember when i was a student there were signs on the loo door saying " please dispose of soiled towels..etc"
ANd a feminist( who i still bow to to this day) had crossed out soiled and put "used"

respeck

scampadoodle · 13/05/2009 11:54

Frivol at least it didn't say "sanitary dressings" - have seen that one a few times [puke]

BlingDreaming · 13/05/2009 11:56

I am so with you on less and fewer. It's irrational, but it annoys me intensely.

Frivol · 13/05/2009 11:57

lol
dressings
Like oil and vinegar?

Greensneeze · 13/05/2009 11:59

I think this is a fab idea, will start doing it forthwith

I did once get a hate letter from a bully when I was about 12 - I took great pleasure in correcting it in red pen and sending it back with "SEE ME" written on it

Guiness is another one that annoys me - surely someone who works in a bloody pub should be able to spell Guinness?

DadInsteadofMum · 14/05/2009 10:09

Dependsh of how much they have drunk - shurely [hic]

I am desperate to get the tipp-ex to a large, laminated sign round the corner offering Free Range Egg's.

Would have to do it under cover of darkness though.
