Want to get a photobook printed with 'Happy Mother(')s(') Day' on, don't want to get it wrong - I know one of you will know!

"Mothering Sunday"

BCLass · 09/03/2009 20:58

I did think that would take the choice away!

Basementbear is right

nigglewiggle · 09/03/2009 21:01

If you want to go with your phrasing then it is Mothers' Day as it is a day for all mothers, not one specific mother.

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2009 21:03

Mothers ?

jellycat · 09/03/2009 21:03

But it is Mothering Sunday, not Mother's Day or Mothers' Day!

nigglewiggle · 09/03/2009 21:14

I was trying to answer the OP's actual question. I forgot I was in Pedants' Corner .

SweetestThing · 09/03/2009 21:19

Another vote for Mothering Sunday - I think Mothers' Day is an American import term

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 09/03/2009 21:21

Mothering Sunday. Always.

GentleOtter · 09/03/2009 21:21

When is it ?

SweetestThing · 09/03/2009 21:24

March 22nd

GentleOtter · 09/03/2009 21:25

Thank you

SweetestThing · 09/03/2009 21:27

You're welcome

CompareTheMeerkat · 09/03/2009 21:27

Mothering Sunday

But I would say Mothers' Day.

BCLass · 10/03/2009 11:18

'Happy Mothering Sunday' does not have the same ring.... (though I know you pedants are correct )

Photobox.co.uk have Mother's on the main page - but it didn't feel right.

Thanks for your help!

According to the Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors (ODWE):
Mother's Day (US) second Sunday in May (for commercial purposes), = Mothering Sunday (for traditional purposes). Definitely not Mothers' Day...

Amazing!! I was just coming on to ask the same thing!

I was putting together the cards the children had made in school today and my teacher had printed off 'Happy Mother's Day' to stick on the bottom. I was debating whether to query it but couldn't find anything definitive on the net to back me up.

katz · 19/03/2009 21:10

was just coming on to post Mothering Sunday too! i have to go make a card saying just that!

Joe1977 · 19/03/2009 21:17

As an aside, has anyone else had a problem finding cards that say 'Mothering Sunday'? Eventually I found one, but it took some effort.

My MIL would not be impressed with one that said Mother's Day OR Mothers' Day!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 19/03/2009 21:19

Came on to say Mothering Sunday but I see I am clearly not needed here

Joe1977 · 19/03/2009 21:19

PS How about 'with love on Mothering Sunday' rather than 'Happy Mothering Sunday'?
