For fucks sake?

You see, on the one hand, I don't know who / what 'fuck' is, but on the other, we say "for God's sake".

It is currently disturbing me (so much so that I had to write "for crying out loud" in a post, when I really just wanted to swear)

I'd go with 'fucks' as I don't think it's possessive. You could always go with FFS if it really bothers you!

God is a name so gets an apostrophe. (I'm sure he has bigger things to worry about, though...)

Ponders · 15/12/2008 10:49

You could write for fuck sake - just the one fuck - no apostrophe angst required

belgo · 15/12/2008 10:50

There should be an apostrophe, but I would never type it anyway.

RamblingRosa · 15/12/2008 10:51

I agree. I'd give it an apostrophe. It is "for the sake of fuck", whatever that means !

RamblingRosa · 15/12/2008 10:52

PS. I don't think it has to be a person in order to take a possessive apostrophe. For example, "a hard day's work".

Thanks all.

Lapin!!!! (where's your Christmas name BTW?)

It should indeed have an apostrophe. If you really need to write it in full.

edam · 15/12/2008 11:06

I'd never thought about it before, first response was off the top of my head but am now coming round to the pro-apostrophe argument.

georgiemum · 15/12/2008 11:06

Are you writing your christmas cards then?

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 15/12/2008 11:08

Huh?

I was wondering why you'd would want to know the correct punctuation. I don't think have ever written this down.

Abbreviate to ffs? no worry about getting it wrong then...Ooooh! I've never sworn on MN before.

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 15/12/2008 15:24

Sorry Georgiemum - a bit slow on the uptake today.

Funnily enough it was an MN thread that caused me to need to write it down!!!
