First look at this link -
look at the writing on the t-shirt

So I emailed them to point out the error and asked them if they needed a good proof reader...
Then,
Look at the email response from Mothercare over this rogue apostrophe

''Thank you for your recent e-mail.

I apologise for this error, I can confirm we have proof readers to spot this type of error but on this occasion they must of missed this.
I will pass your information to the relevant department so we can try to avoid this accident in the future.
I hope this is of some help.

Kind regards''

They are taking the piss!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry! Which is worse, the shirt or the email??

fullmoonfiend · 04/10/2008 17:00

Pedants! Share my ire!

Good grief they are both awful.

And I thought it was just foreign-designed clothes that had duff English. My latest favourite is a t-shirt seen in France sporting the catchy slogan

That's the way it's

downbutnotout · 04/10/2008 17:09

At the risk of raising your blood pressure, look at this!

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 04/10/2008 17:33

I feel your pain.

Feenie · 04/10/2008 17:44

Have submitted an onlne review accordingly!

Feenie · 04/10/2008 17:45

Will they submit it though?!

superfrenchie1 · 04/10/2008 22:49

oh goodness this is AWFUL!!!!

people actually buy these things and wear them / dress their poor little babies in them!

and for mothercare to send that letter... shocking. i would send back to someone higher up at mothercare. they need better staff, that's appalling

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 22:53

[shakes head]

Spaceman · 04/10/2008 23:00

This isn't pedants stuff. This is shockingly ignorant and MC should be ashamed.

PixelHerder · 04/10/2008 23:08

Have also submitted a review, but I bet they don't publish it.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 05/10/2008 12:40

Have sent an email to Joe Browns.

And breathe.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 05/10/2008 12:50

Isn't the Joe Brown's one deliberate? "For confident lads who luv txt type grama! "

downbutnotout · 05/10/2008 15:25

I think not - the original catalogue containing the offending item did not have this description or use the word "grama" .

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 05/10/2008 15:30

Ah, clearly they've tried to pretend it was intentional then! Their description doesn't explain why they've spelt "don't" correctly though

fullmoonfiend · 05/10/2008 19:24

See, once they're into Joe Browns, they're beyond redemption....

But the mOTHERCARE ONE IS SOMEHOW WORSE!
Pedants, help me bombard Mothercare MD with complaints! if we can save just one little child from the misrery of wearing a slogan tee-shirt, let alone a gramatically incorrect one, it will all be worth it

My dh is now threatening to create a special mug for the boys to present me with. It will say ''Mummys' Little Grammer Nazi'' and will torment me every time I have to drink from it.

Hand's FMF a calming cup of tea and a chocolate hobnob.

[snigger]

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 06/10/2008 13:37

I have had a reply from Joe Browns.

It is sold under licence by Warner Brothers, so JB can't do anything about it. They did say that they had noticed the error, but think it's a "pretty cool T-shirt any way"!

I did try.

UnquietDad · 06/10/2008 14:34

Shocking stuff. People don't seem to care any more. It's as if correct grammar is some recondite custom buried in the past and practised only by those who are over-insistent on etiquette, like doffing one's cap or tugging one's forelock.

IT ISN'T. It's for everyone.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 06/10/2008 14:50

anyway

downbutnotout · 06/10/2008 18:09

It's the thin end of the wedge, I tell you!

BarcodeZebra · 07/10/2008 21:35

I'm not surprised. These are the same people who wouldn't sell DW a car seat, "because it's raining".

Wankers.
