The random use of apostrophe's [sic] in work group e-mails is upsetting me greatly

Today we have had e-mails about:

Grosvenor casino's

Magazine Cover's

Article on Xmas Present Idea's

One of these was from a person who has a first class degree in English from Oxford.

Is there something in the water in Bath today? I work in publishing, fgs. Knowing the basic rules of grammar is a fundamental part of the farking job.

Do you think I should send a stiffly worded e-mail around the office to teach them how to use apostrophes?

It's usually the sheer randomness that gets to me. I saw a comment about "kid's and parents" yesterday. Why one apostrophe? Surely 0 (correct) or 2 (incorrect but consistent) would make more sense? Dod they think that just throwing a few around at random is all anyone ever does?

We had to introduce grammar lessons to overcome this. Honestly, I think everyone was quite pleased as they had all been wondering what these funny little squiggles were for .

I instituted a compulsory mini teach-in on apostrophes and we now name and shame all transgressors.

These people send e-mails to clients with blinding errors such as these. They say things like "...We send all of are artwork to production. Here is there email address..."

I had an e-mail from a colleague once telling me that she was "annoid" by a client's incompetence. (Oh, the irony!)

Here is a message that I have copied and pasted from our work intranet".....sorry cannot be more persific......"

When we changed our company name our auditors wrote in our financial statements "Margoandjerry Limited (formally Margoandjerry Enterprises)...."

When I wrote to point out that they meant "formerly" they responded "Sorry, we should of checked"

Re: your OP - tell 'em! A quick call to the college to get the degree revoked, or at least reclassified, might be in order, too. Harsh, but fair in the circumstances, I think...

I work in social care and the service has a Women-Specific Worker (actual job title). Unfortunately she signs off as Women's Specific Worker.

I once altered someone's email before forwarding it on, it was so bad.

And I have been guilty of correcting people's comments in office birthday cards etc (latest was, "thank's for all your hard work!")

Even given the relative ease with which Firsts are now awarded compared with ten years ago or more, I think that if I worked in your HR department I might want to see the offender's degree certificate. I have to say that I find it incredible that someone with a First, especially in English, from any reputable University, could make that type of mistake,
