'give me a text' this always makes me want to shout.

I know it is wrong and it drives me mad. Why have people started using this? For many years people have always said, send a letter. Surely give is only used when passing something from person to person with no middle man. Or have i got it wrong. Please Pedants let me know.

okaaaay. Again, texting is a new sport and it costs money. Per text. So every letter you can remove while retaining the gist of the message reduces the chances of your missive spilling into two texts and costing twice as much. I dont normally do it as just not even close to hip enough to know all the slang, (and would also feel people receiving my text would think I had lost plot), BUT if a long text is going to end up going into two, then I will go back through it and take out what I can to cut the length. Am going to hunt down very interesting New scientist article for you on the evolution of language and come back...!

OK can't get hold of it. Bugger. In essence outlines the changes in our language to date and tries to predict where it is going. REally made me think about just how fluid language is, particularly a global one. I have some sympathy with pedantry in general as I enjoy the language we've got, but I do firmly believe that it has no place in cutting edge technology. People globally will decide how we are going to talk about these new activties and whatever they decide will be the 'right' way.

I have just received a text that has made my teeth itch. It says, 'dats' for thats, '2moz' for tomorrow and 'wotz' for what's.

I have replied in perfet English and even managed a semi-colon!
