It's not just bad spelling...it's M&S bad spelling.

It was our wedding anniversary on Saturday. My best man, being a considerate sort, decided to send DW and me a couple of bottles of wine via the services of M&S.

Let's imagine, for the purposes of this post, that my name is Martin and that DW is called something like Jane. The message on the accompanying card read as follows:

"Matin and Jane. Happy anaversary for tommorow."

Clearly M&S help the celebrants of anniversaries so rarely that they have never used to word before.

Splendid.

I went in to M&S at Bluewater today and their sign said savory

I did point it out to the staff member.

WaynettaSlob · 05/08/2008 15:42

I can't believe I'm about to defend them, but.....
When you order gifts from Eminess (love that BTW!!) you fill in the gift message yourself - is it at all possible that your best man mistyped, and that Eminess simply printed the card verbatim?

MamaGLovesMe · 05/08/2008 15:44

In which case if they had anything about them, they should have contacted him to check how he wanted it spelt.

SixSpotBurnet · 05/08/2008 15:50

Our local Eminess has a sign above one of the tills reading: "Five items or less".

It always annoys me.

That could be it, jura. Eminess may be assuming that the average 'ackney punter don't know no bettah.

Loving the title here, too.

At least they delivered to the right people... when we were "courting" DH ordered flowers from M&S for me, and they sent them to him!

BarcodeZebra · 07/08/2008 22:15

Waynetta: It's no defense. As you'll see from earlier in the thread, he dictated it over the phone.

Word: That's oddly sweet. I don't know why. It just is.

Sure it was M&S bad spelling? And not just M&S spelling badly on behalf of your best man? If they ordered online, M&S would just have replicated what the customer wrote in the online form....

concealedidentity · 07/08/2008 22:26

ok, sorry, just saw that post!
