Help - I'm editing a corporate doc and can't decide if cross sector (hideous term) should be hyphenated. Anyone know for sure?

Cross-sector otherwise a pedant might mistake your sector for an angry one

MintPattie · 01/08/2008 15:17

Good point - wouldn't want a cross sector!

I think the hyphen is a much-derided and unfairly-neglected form of punctuation. Having said that, I do tend to over-use it. I must be careful not to apply it willy-nilly.

UqD you are such a geek!

I think it should be hyphenated but the hyphen should extend on both sides to completely cross out the abominable term.

ooh hanaflower, thanks for reminding me of terminology for things-that-need-hyphens - I always insist on them being hyphenated too and can't abide people who leave it out when it changes the sense.

Lol at UqD

Overused the hyphen there, UQD. Unfairly neglected has been unduly hyphenated.
