As well sounds like one word in South Africa, ("aswell" is dh's nickname for his cousin from Jo'burg as she says it all the time)

I am a journalist by trade and used to work with another (allegedly) who once memorably asked me "is alot one word, the same as abit?"

oh also under way is two words not one, but most professional scribes don't seem to know that.
