Wipeboard or whiteboard?

Both make sense, in a painful way. But I know which one I think is correct!

The company I work for sells them.
They are dry wipe whiteboards.

ZipZapZoom · 07/06/2024 07:06

If you Google wipe board, those little whiteboards come up

I googled wipe board and mini wipe board and not one single result was for a wipe board, it even automatically corrected it to 30 mini white boards. I got whiteboards and dry wipe boards but zero wipe boards so I'd be surprised if she'd ordered them from somewhere with that name.

Of course it's not exceptionally important in the grand scheme of things but it would leave me wondering what else this person got wrong in class, even unintentionally as it's such an obvious mistake.

And you can stick something to it with gluetack, which is what my DD calls blutack.

Came on here to say this about my DS!

The Works call them wipe boards. Couldn't be bothered to click on any other links to see how they were listed.

Maybe it's write board.

😂😂😂 don't add another to the mix

Momstermunch · 07/06/2024 07:24

Yeah I'm not googling that one, I'm already overly invested 😂

Stormyinacoffeemug · 07/06/2024 07:30

I ordered one of these recently. The websites we use at work listed them as either dry-wipeboards or whiteboards.

Like I said dry wipe boards I've heard of but not specifically just wipe boards and no search results came up for just a wipe board although yours does show one on Amazon. Nevertheless, as I've said I've literally never heard them called anything but white boards in all the schools I've worked in so am wondering if this teacher is maybe from another country?

Stormyinacoffeemug · 07/06/2024 07:37

It's quite possible the teacher knows the full term of dry-wipe boards but just drops the word dry for ease of use in the classroom.

Ifailed · 07/06/2024 07:54

I started school in the 60s and they still had some old slate boards.
HTH.

Surely if 'interactive board things' are introduced into schools there will be no board rubber to throw at unruly pupils?

The moral decline continues...

Dilbertian · 07/06/2024 16:45

The white replacement for blackboards was the whiteboard. The whiteboard is now supplemented or even replaced by the interactive whiteboard. But people are lazy and drop words. So the electronic board is now the whiteboard. Which means that a different word is needed for the little wipe-clean boards that the children use, otherwise they will look for a power button.

A natural and appropriate evolution of the language.

Not allowed to poke them with the window pole any more, either. What is the world coming to?

So that just leaves 'standing in the corner with a Dunce's hat on'.

Sigh
