Series is or are - help me be right

OK, DH has some text in from a company to tweak. Presently it reads; "The Debut series ARE designed to blah blah blahdy blah"

I say it should read "The Debut series IS designed to blah blah blahdy blah"

I am right am I not?

Also there is another howler IMO ..... "characteristics FROM the grape" which I think should be "characteristics OF the grape"

Another point to me, is it not? ?
