Pedants' corner

Freudian typo in AIBU

There is a thread in AIBU on the movie Oppenheimer; one of the earliest posts includes this:

"War is not a pretty business and Oppenheimer was a tortured sole. The film does not make him a hero. He comes across as very troubled indeed. Equally he is not a villain."

As a career pedant, I immediately thought "He may have been a tortured sole, but at least he wasn't a heel."

I read this thread and saw it as him being a tortured fish 🤣

I'm sure if the person who made the mistake saw your pisstake of them, they'd really feel so much better.

PS- you're missing a comma. Shall I start a thread to point and laugh?

Surely a Freudian slip is when the wrong choice of word accidentally indicates a deep-seated conflict or feeling of guilt in the speaker's mind ? For instance, 'My brother in law looked really good in his new knickers' , instead of 'Kickers'. Sorry, not a good example but the best I can think of right now.

Fuck me, the spelling and grammar on this site right now is beyond. Way worse than previously.

Sometimes the sentence construction isn't so hot, either.
