I've noticed that very rarely now, do you hear the word "'research" pronounced as reSEARCH. It seems to have consistently been replaced with REsearch. It annoys me every time I hear it!

Thought I was the only person in the world turning apoplectic over this! Had even begun to wonder if my memory was misleading me.

But really - how can you RE-search something you’ve never looked at before? It’s a completely different word, suitable only for customs officials with distracted sniffer dogs, or house clearances where a favourable Will simply cannot be found.

I work in research. people around me say the word all the time. I hear 'research' (not much stress) or 'reSEARCH' but never 'REsearch'

I work in research. Rarely do I hear the word used (said) with a strong emphasis on either syllable. The 're' part is often a bit throwaway, so it's almost like r'search, but I wouldn't expect to hear anything stronger than that on the 'search' part.

I hear it said incorrectly as REsearch on the news, TV, the radio, from most people in everyday life. I will stand firm and continue saying reSEARCH, which does indeed sound like r'search!
