Came over so I wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings on the existing AIBU thread but...

Loose vs lose
Bear vs bare
Discusting
Genuinely vs generally
Then vs than
Draw vs drawer
Lend vs borrow
Bought vs brought

Aaaagh!!!

@NinkyNonkNausea

Out of curiosity, why is it OK to start a thread here (where 10-15 years ago, we used to talk about interesting nuances of language) yet you don't want to hurt anybody's feelings on the twatty Aibu thread?

Do you think the thick won't read over here?

‘Bring’ instead of ‘take’

Theres a post where someone is suggesting, about an event taking place in the future, the OP asks someone to take her to an address:

’can’t you ask him to bring you to your friends?’

Drives me bonkers. I shout ‘TAKE! It’s TAKE!!’ whenever I see it and I see it a lot on here.

Then you are making yourself look very silly. As @JenniferBarkley has explained.

"Theres a post where someone is suggesting, about an event taking place in the future, the OP asks someone to take her to an address"

Glass houses and stones come to mind tbf.

TigerDroveAgain · 26/10/2022 20:22

Unnecessary descriptors: DH likes tuna fish (as opposed to tuna vegetables?)

When people interchange off and of

Or say 'off of'

Former boss: off of out of (without any irony).

BathTangle · 26/10/2022 20:23

"We was", especially when used in formal work emails (looking at you HR).

"Without further adieu" (used in court by a Crown Prosecutor)

Florence08 · 26/10/2022 20:27

Went to a school photography trip meeting last week and the teacher said “any students who don’t have a camera can lend one from the school” 🙄

Agree about the incorrect and widespread use of ‘myself’ (“myself and my husband”). It really grates!

NinkyNonkNausea · 26/10/2022 20:30

@PAFMO Not "the thick" but maybe people uninterested in minor language usage annoyances? I didn't know this board was used differently 10 or 15 years ago, but this post doesn't seem dissimilar to recent posts.

Hi and he's. I had to unfollow a friend on social media as I could no longer stand reading post after post with these mixed up.

"Look at he's cute little face. His so happy with the new Teddy..."

Ha! This one drives me bananas.

This.

I mean, there was a (nother, tedious) gotten thread within the past week or so, in this section. I'm going to put that as my irritation.

My irritation is that nobody bothers to look at the dates on threads. It was a zombie thread of mine.

PriamFarrl · 26/10/2022 23:29

Isle for aisle.

A few days ago there was someone writing about a driving incident and saying that she ‘had the right away’.

ScoobyDoNot · 27/10/2022 02:16

I/we done something instead of did.

Also, one I keep seeing more of lately is the use of 'are' instead of 'our'.
Eg; We really enjoyed are holiday - what is that all about!?

lowgreyclouds · 27/10/2022 03:16

Seen instead of saw!

sanityisamyth · 27/10/2022 03:25

Ect instead of etc.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 27/10/2022 03:29

Breath instead of breathe.
Of instead of off. Angry
