People who say "pacifically", instead of specifically. I wish I was brave enough to correct them, but alas, I am not.

OP posts:

fith instead of fifth

Dixichik · 31/01/2008 21:12

What drives me absolutely batty is when people say "arks" instead of "ask". AAAAAAHHHHHH!

Dixichik · 31/01/2008 21:15

And on purpose the "man indoors" winds me up by saying heighth instead of height. He knows its wrong because I tell him and he still says it wrong......

fryalot · 31/01/2008 21:16

ooh, and crips instead of crisps

quickdrawmcgraw · 31/01/2008 21:38

and thung instead of tongue and troath instead of throat.
One person I know says both these!

MoosMa · 31/01/2008 21:38

People who say 'et' instead of 'ate'.

Also DH says 'amount of people' instead of 'number of people', I correct him every time, he's so lucky to have me by his side

MoosMa · 31/01/2008 21:40

DD1 has just started saying 'hasn't got no xxxx' which really really grates but I have to be patient, she's only small and I'm lucky she can talk at all really.

Rolacola · 31/01/2008 21:45

I hate 'criss' instead of crisps!! AAAghhhhh!!

MsHighwater · 31/01/2008 22:09

Febuary
Secetary
Vunnerable
Libary
should of/could of

and many more.

One of my favourite books is Troublesome Words by Bill Bryson. Pedant's bible.

maggiethecat · 31/01/2008 22:33

GEGirl this may sound weird but the other night I was in bed thinking about this pacifically thing - (mind probably wanders off to nonsenseland by the time I've put kids to bed!)- what is the precise difficulty with this word?? But then my dear dad no matter how often corrected insisted on saying vulture instead of voucher!!

Threadlouse · 31/01/2008 22:37

I don't like:

'The price of those lemons is so cheap.'

No, the price isn't cheap -- the lemons are.

You wouldn't say:

'The height of that telegraph pole is so tall'

would you.

Threadlouse · 31/01/2008 22:38

It reminds me of that weird Biblical formula, 'His name shall be called Jesus.'

Ok, if his name is called Jesus, what's he called?

Threadlouse · 31/01/2008 22:39

Plus, my DH says 'orin juice' instead of 'orange juice'. Show me an orin tree.
