'Loosing' one's shit sounds, quite frankly, disgusting.

Done to death here, and still the loose/lose shit happens

VanillaAndOrange · 15/02/2021 17:03

I've seen it misspelt so many times that now, when I see those posters that say "blood in your poo or looser poo?", I think it should say "loser poo" for a moment, and wonder what loser poo would be like.

Well, a bit shit, obviously.

MiddletownDreams · 15/02/2021 17:28

It's the same with weight. The number of posters who want to, 'loose' weight makes me despair. I only wish I could let loose some of my excess weight Grin

My sister has only recently starting writing 'are' instead of 'our' on Facebook. I have no idea why this should be, she's never done it in the past. In our accent, our and are don't even rhyme. Maybe she's seen other people write it as 'are' and thinks that's the correct spelling?

Lose / loose - The word most likely to be misspelled?

SirSamuelVimes · 15/02/2021 17:33

Don't get me started on abit Angry or alot Angry

user1495884673 · 15/02/2021 17:35

It's not such a big deal that you need to loose your rag over it. Wink

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/02/2021 17:52

Haha I posted this 'scream unit the void' ages ago and I'm still annoyed about it Grin

It riles me to the extent I can feel the skin behind my ears rippling in disgust

I used to work on a newspaper and one of my colleagues on the subs desk (team of people who check the copy and write the headlines - more or less non-existent now) once said to me "Is 'abit' one word, the same as 'alot'?"

I didn't know what to answer tbh!

SirSamuelVimes · 15/02/2021 18:03

@clary No! Shock

Labobo · 15/02/2021 18:51

The other day I wrote lose correctly in context and spellcheck underlined it! If spellcheck wants it changed to loose, what hope is there for people who doubt their own ability to spell?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/02/2021 18:54

It’s one of the very few spellings that I struggle with.

Every time

No matter how many times I look it up.

Any tips on how to remember how to get it right would be gratefully received!

Think of moose - you would never write that mose or say it "mooz" would you? So loose is the same.
Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/02/2021 21:28

Oooh @clary. That way might just work 😀👍🏻

morninglive · 18/02/2021 09:23

To be fair, if you say I want to loose weight, the long 'oo' does actually sound right.

Still unforgivable

SirSamuelVimes · 18/02/2021 14:28

I tend to use the word "loser" as an anchor. I would never get looser / loser mixed-up so I just need to knock off the r and I know which one I need!
