We deliver your product fast and friendly

The subject line is what I saw on the side of a delivery van today and it took me a few moments to work out why it sounded wrong. I'll see what others think first.

Because they should be using adverbs not adjectives to describe how they are delivering things. For example, they could say that they deliver 'quickly and efficiently'.

If they want to use 'fast and friendly' they should say 'our delivery is fast and friendly'. In that case, adjectives are fine, because they are describing a noun not a verb.

One point I disagree on: "fast" is an adverb (as well as an adjective) despite appearances, so "we deliver your product fast" would be fine.

Conversely, "friendly" looks like an adverb, but is an adjective, so is being used incorrectly. "We deliver your product friendly" would be wrong.

It just amused me that the word without -ly is an adverb and the word with -ly isn't.

Is it because ‘product’ is a euphemism?

I don't have a problem with "product". At least they didn't have the drained-of-meaning "solutions" which you see on the side of every other van.

It should have been friendlily but that's one of those words that looks weird and trips the tongue rather than tripping off it.

I agree 'fast' can be both adjective and adverb. It's friendly that's the problem.

Friendlily (like 'love lily') just looks odd!
