So, the Apprentice, Casualty or Poldark are not shows! They are programmes.

Surgeries are several places where GPs, nurses, receptionists etc work. If you have had surgery several times the word for that is operations.

And you watch a film and go to the cinema, you don't watch a movie or go to the movies.

So there.......

It should be The Apprentice not the Apprentice. You started a post with "so" (and I know some pedantic types don't like that use of so).

Why can't "show" be a synonym for a TV programme?

"Movie" is the common word in American English - fair enough, not to use it if you want to sound British, but I suspect it's being adopted more and more in the UK.
