Just that really.

She led on the bed!! No she fucking laid on it.

But it seems really bloody common :/

Definitely a thing here, along with 'for sell' instead of 'for sale'

kingscrossnoodle · 28/03/2017 08:52

I think you have good intentions however you have problems with lay/laid. yes I know. That was covered already. I wrote it wrong in the first place. However using laid instead of lay is not the same as using led. Led is an entirely different word, not a variant.

StaggerLeee · 28/03/2017 10:07

ahem..."I wrote it wrong" isn't correct either.

Try "I wrote it incorrectly"

kingscrossnoodle · 28/03/2017 10:09

Try

"Fuck off"

HTH

StaggerLeee · 28/03/2017 10:18

You do realise you are posting on Pedants' Corner don't you?

kingscrossnoodle · 28/03/2017 10:22

Yes I do. I thought it was the right section to ask why people use the wrong word. Had no idea that it was a place where people pick at every detail on a post.

We are not all perfect but being grammatically incorrect is different to using the wrong word.

Won't be posting here again, proper nasty.

Pseudonym99 · 28/03/2017 10:35

Won't be posting here again, proper nasty.

Which is why it has its own section
Keeps them off AIBU.

kingscrossnoodle · 28/03/2017 10:53

I can handle AIBU - it's expected in there.

CGORST · 11/02/2018 18:22

Arrrgggghhhh - I'm glad I have seen this post because recently I have been hearing people saying "led" instead of laid, more and more often. It is driving me mad!!!! I'm glad I'm not alone in my frustration even though I'm a couple of years late in finding this conversation!!

WeAllHaveWings · 11/02/2018 18:31

If someone said to me "she led on the bed" I would need to ask them what they mean (I would be able to guess what they meant, but would make a point of asking).

Never heard it hear (West Coast, Scotland)

WeAllHaveWings · 11/02/2018 18:31

*here!!!!

Acc68 · 12/08/2018 11:21

I’m from se London and never heard it before I moved to Isle Of Wight! It actually frustrates me! I always correct when I hear it but the person saying it thinks it’s the right way lol I’m so glad I’ve seen this post because now I know I am right and yes it seems like a local thing

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 15/05/2020 16:08

I know this is a zombie thread, but I found it trying to find a reference for the phrase "led a bed" to mean a lazy sleeping person. it was the only matching google result

LightCow · 18/08/2023 16:25

Normal in a few places. Nothing wrong with it, It’s just dialect. Chill out, educate yourself.

Gracie1965 · 13/02/2024 11:11

Currently living in the Oxford (UK) area and I have heard (Oxfordshire natives) the use of the word 'led' as in "I 'led' on the bed". I've pulled people up on this who seem to think they are correct😂laughable but also very annoying!
