Paypal television advert with their "expiration date."

So using Paypal is so much easier as you don't need to keep inputting all your card details including the "expiration date."
I thought food had expiration dates/use bys.

Don't credit/debit cards have expiry dates...at least that's what it says on my cards

Aren't these two words interchangeable? I have a feeling 'expiration' may be more common U.S. usage. I'm presuming Paypal is a U.S. company.
