Pedants' corner

I would love people to sing an octave instead of a major 6th in the third line of happy birthday to you

I'm sure I'm not the only pedant to care about music as well as grammar. Got to go and have a bath now, but I look forward to checking on this tomorrow to meet the hundreds of others who agree with me.Grin

never ever heard it sung with a sixth

I've just looked at youtube.

Yes, she's a bit slurry up to it "happy buurrrirthday!" but it's nearer an octave than a 6th.

Unless of course Simon Cowell had something to do with the clip I saw and she has been autotuened Grin

Good lord, all of these fortunate souls who've never heard it sung with a major 6th! I thank you for letting me get this off my chest. I look forward to following CITH's investigative work on her husband's true identity.

Surely hi-hoh is a major 6th too, not an octave? An octave is high on a hill was a lonely goat herd

By the way, MrsMadWriggle, I do the 'third above' thing for the whole of the last line Smile

The way I sing hi-hoh (the very first one at the beginning/intro of the song) it is an 8ve.
