In tonight's item about the shortage of university places, the BBC (please God the education correspondent wasn't responsible, I was too busy crossing myself and spitting over my shoulder to notice) ran some text onscreen to the effect that all hope is lost without x amount of A's.
Then they did the same thing with B's.
