Low key 'baby shower' type get together

Sorry for the crap title!

My friend was going to have a baby shower. The person holding it (and organising etc) is now unable to due to unforseen circumstances. My friend is a little disappointed.

So, i have offered to do it for her. The slight problem being that i don't live in the same town, but 45mins away so unsure everyone could make it.

So, really i need ideas of what i could do for what could be only a handful of people.

I don't like the idea of games (not really a games type of person - plus heavily pg myself) but understand she might. Would a baby related quiz be rubbish? I could incorporate celeb questions, baby food tasting etc as well, as i think most people that would come haven't had children.

Food and drink?

All ideas much appreciated

depending on time of day, depends on what food and drink to offer. I'd go with nibbles, maybe get a cake, some wine, tea and coffee and non alchoholic cocktail?

as for what to do, maybe a quiz depends on who is coming.

google baby shower ideas, i did and just found www.showermybaby.co.uk/

hope it goes well!

Play "guess the weight of the baby" game. Obviously winner won't be confirmed until the birth.

Also could you get all of the ladies to bring pictures of themselves as babies. (doesn't matter if they don't all bring them) you can guess who was who.

Low key nibbles, if people ask (some probably will) can they bring something just ask for simple things like crisps/nice juice/schloer type drinks etc.

A close friend did a low key baby shower for me and at my request we had cakes for the snack!

That is what i was thinking. Just some little things to do as an ice breaker and some drinks and nibbles.

Have already perfected the pink icing for the fairy cakes (was going to do mini ones)

Like the idea of a baby sweepstake, everyone have a guess of weight and date? Might depend on how many people come though....

At my baby shower we had a 'guess the girth' (it's always 40" and only the experienced mums get this), and a 'memory game' - a baby blanket with lots of baby gear on it which you expose for a minute and then get everyone to write down what is there. Mum gets to keep everything, of course.

I imagine that there were one or two other games, but DS is 18 now and my memory has not retained anything too twee (such as tasting babyfood - I am certain we did not have anything like that).
