We are expecting 40 of our nearest and dearest for a bbq on Sunday to celebrate dh's 30th birthday. i have scrubbed, mowed, planted and shopped. Now i am attempting to make a please-all playlist for the day.

We have a fair few rockers, and several family members firmly stuck in the 80s (or worse!)

So i suppose i am looking for suggestions for party tunes that will sit nicely in the background of the bustle and chatter and will please everyone

Here are few suggestions of bands/singers that usually are crowd pleasers: Michael Jackson, The Police, Roy Orbison, New Order, Rolling Stones, U2, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Kylie Minogue, Dire Straits, Genesis, Madonna, Billy Joel, Pet Shop Boys...

Hope that helps!

Maybe something from Woodstock 69?

for a 30th I wouldn't be playing 80's music - for a 50th perhaps but not a 30th!

Keep it fresh with some more modern tunes mixed up with old faves. Why not incorporate some older songs covered by modern artists such as the Glee songs?

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Madonna
ACDC, Meatloaf, Keane, Blur, Gorillaz

Actually I'm finding it difficult to list artists as many of the songs we love are from compilations, & not from major artists.

The Hed Kandi compilations are fantastic (World Series UK Vol 1 is one of my fav's and is available 2nd hand on amazon for less than £5 - 3 CDs) , and many of the Chillout comps out there are quite good for party background music (Ministry of Sound do great Ibiza Chillout comps). Mix it up with a recent NOW compilation for new hits and perhaps an 80's compilation if you must (there is one being TV advertised at the moment).

Have a great party!
