DD's birthday is in June, hopefully by then we should have some decent weather so we are planning a sports day style party.

We're lucky enough to live in village with a lovely stream(in which we're thinking the girls can paddle in after the games and picnic) with a nice bit of green a little way off that is flat enough for playing games on.

There'll be about ten 8 year old girls.

We were thinking-

An obstacle race(suggestions for obstacles?)

Three legged race

Relay race

Any suggestions for more games and where to buy the necessary supplies would be great.

Wellie throwing competition

Fancy dress relay? Split into two teams, half of each team at either end of the 'track'. Each team has a pile of fancy dress items - hats, gloves, feather boas etc. First children to go put on all the clothes, run to the other end where they then have to pass the items on the the next child, who does the same thing (If that makes sense!)

Egg and Spoon race

Sack race?

For the obstacle race - hoops to climb through, sheets pegged down with tent pegs to crawl under, tunnels if you can get hold of them. Could do it as a time trial with a stopwatch then keep a big score board.

The Holey Cup race - have an empty bucket at one end, team at the other. Each team is given a plastic cup with holes pierced in it and a bucket full of water. They have 1 minute (or how ever long you want) to get the water from the one bucket to the other using only the cup. The team who moves the most water wins. Could do it as one big team to make it less competetive.

The Elephant - Everyone stands behind each other in a line. Put one hand straight out in front, then one hand between their legs. With the hand out in front, you grab hold of the person in front of yous hand that is between their legs, so everyone is joined up

HTH!

Thanks for ideas, brilliant, particularly fancy dress relay, they'll love that.

We used to love the slow-bicycle-race when we were at school.

medals?

ladder flat on ground for obstacle race

at school we did a race where you had to put the fancy dress outfits on during the race... place the items along the race track and they have to get dressed into them as quick as possible along the way and keep the whole outfit intact at the end of the race!

It's a bike race where the last person to cross the finish line wins

No falling off
You have to go in a straight line
No stopping!

Thank you for all of these ideas. Planning the same but for about 20 x 10 year olds on June 5th! Starting to think I want to run away from it all!! Like the idea of the dressing up race!

Oh - and I have a party for me in the garden in the evening and am even more worried about that!!!
