That's it really - about to become a godmother to a lovely 6 year old we've known since infancy, good family friends though we don't see them that often. Would like to give him something appropriate (and not involving engraving etc since no time!) or maybe something for now and something for when he's grown up? New to all this and I'm not English so a bit unsure as to what would be appropriate. Any ideas at all? thanks!

Maybe a nice boxed set of books - Narnia, Harry potter or simialr that he can enjoy and keep later and something smaller for now?

My friend got her godson a lovely quilt but it was quite expensive.

love Narnia book idea as the stories have some strong links to christian themes so would last right into adulthood

one of the most appropriate things would be a bible, something age appropriate, at 6 years he should have a fair idea of what he is signing up to so maybe going to your local christian book shop and asking for a recommendation would be a good idea. I bought my godson a toddler bible (he was a baby when christened) but have plan to give him other ones/story books as he gets older and they are more appropriate.

We bought our godson a compass - we did have it engraved - and put a little note in the box which said 'so you can always find your way home' - we felt it was something he could keep forever.
