Butterfly-themed party - how can I make it more boy-friendly?

We're planning a butterfly party for dd2's 5th birthday. The guests will be mostly girls, but we could have a few boys attending so I need help thinking of some boy-friendly activities. We're going to decorate butterflies cut out of card, and I thought I could do some caterpillar shapes as an alternative.

Dd2 is keen to have necklace-making as an activity at the party (I've bought some butterfly beads), but I can't think of an alternative similar activity for the boys. Perhaps a craft activity to do with caterpillars/beetles/ladybirds or something? Are ladybirds considered to be less 'girly' than butterflies?

Any suggestions appreciated...

Make it a hungry caterpillar party.

Why won't boys like butterflies? Sure boys would like beading bracelets and things too.

Not a bad idea to include caterpillars/hungry caterpillar as variety though. Ooh if you did the Hungry Caterpillar you could have all the food he eats

Hungry caterpillar party is a lovely idea. Otherwise think BUGS for the boys - they could make googly eyed spiders or something along those lines.

If you have time you could buy a "Butterfly farm" from Amazon - they send you the caterpillars and you get to see the whole lif cycle of a butterfly. You would have to try and time it so they were at an interesting point for the party!

I was going to suggest 'butterflies and bees'... but think a Hungry Caterpillar part is a brilliant idea, JackSpratt!
