so am having a party at the weekend and am a bit conscious of our budget.. wanted to do something for my birthday but figured everyone skint and going out costs a small fortune these days so decided to have small ish (20-25 people - all adults) party at home. am having a theme and should be a good night but i can't remember the last time i went to a party (getting old!) but i know i would take some booze with me.. is that the general consensus? will people bring some beers/wine etc as i don't think i can afford to buy all the booze to cater for everyone for the whole night!! oops!
i didn't specify bring a bottle on the invite but should I have? can i send an email out now or is that a bit rude and patronising?!!
anyone?!

Think it would be enormously rude to turn up to a party without booze.

Most people would bring something surely. Can you get cheap boxes of wine in Aldi or Lidl?

YES assuming you are in the UK it is def the norm to take booze to a party. .
If I were hosting a party of that size I would buy a case of (12) beer and get supermarket 3 for a tenner on wine - probably 6 each of white and red. ie I would spend about £50 on booze, plus coke, lemonade and fruit juice.

In my experience I am always left with more wine that I started with! Of course wine keeps for a long time so this is not a problem.

Just say bring a bottle or box...everyone knows times are hard..it wouldn't offend me!,,you would probably get a good brandy!...lol{grn]

I don't drink so I usually take food to my book group.

But even I would take a bottle of wine to a party at someone's home, yes.
