Having a family party for 16 adults and 1 2yo tomorrow (birthday boy) and need someone to look at my menu and tell me if it needs something (i.e. meat!)

vegetable sticks, crisps, dips
big bowl of potatoes
rice salad
pasta salad
bread
cheese
cheese scones
cherry tomatoes
coleslaw
2 huge pizzas (vegi) (will cut each into 8 large slices)
2 small quiches (vegi) (will cut each into 8 bitsize bits)
prawns in chilli oil

When I write it out like that it doesn't seem much Do I need some meat? What can I get that will be easy to serve and require next to no preparation?

It's a bit carb heavy tbh.

I'd leave out the potatoes and the rice or pasta salad and perhaps do a green salad instead.

As for meat you could roast some chicken drumsticks or cocktail sausages.

Have you got a birthday cake?

Mercy · 08/05/2009 10:04

Whoops, didn't see your 2nd post - of course you have a cake!

StealthPolarPig · 08/05/2009 10:08

I take your point but I've bought it now so it's going in Cocktail sausages would be perfect, couldn't see anything like that yesterday - seems like a lot of party food only comes out around Christmas (woud have preferred those bite sized quiches). Will have another look.
Thanks for your help - any oher ideas if cocktail sausages are nowhere to be seen?

or am I looking in the wrong place - looking in the fresh and cooked meat aisles, would they tend to be frozen?

You could just use normal size sausages and cut them up - I've done that in the past!

Spare ribs? Very easy to do, although a little sticky when eating

M&S do them ready cooked in tubs - I think they do them all year round

StealthPolarPig · 08/05/2009 10:20

I'll have a look in M&S thanks - only looked in Sainsbury's

Happy Birthday to your ds btw

StealthPolarPig · 08/05/2009 10:41

Thanks! He's actually having the party 2 weeks later than his birthday and the banners being up for weeks on end is driving DH mad

Try Waitrose for cocktail sausages, if you have one - they sell them year-round. Also try frozen food section for party food in general.

StealthPolarPig · 08/05/2009 10:52

Nearest Waitrose is 40 miles away
Thanks - will try M&S as they sound easy (open - tip into bowl ) but then I think I can rely on frozen section for something!
