40th birthday gift for friend's DH - I have no idea what to buy, help me please

No clue on budget either, what do people do these days?

Fairy cakes. Everyone loves to have cakes made for them.

He's having a party so I think the cake aspect will be covered

Hmm, well it was just DH's 40th. My budget was high, obviously, as he's my DH!

Anyway, he got an ipod touch from me. He also wanted an apple mighty mouse thingy, but he's quite into his gadgetry. That is about £30 I think?

But, given he's just a mate's DH, I reckon a great bottle of something is perfect. Does he like whisky? There's nothing DH likes more than being presented with a nice bottle of his favourite tipple.

But I'm totally lacking any alternative ideas...

If he's into music, a HMV voucher might be a good idea. Or better still, if you can find out a bit about his music taste, try and buy him a CD of a new band he might like getting into (you could do a MN thread with his current faves and get some great suggestions!).

He might appreciate being kept "current" with his music....unless of course he's a total muso already.
