Can't decide and 8 weeks to the big 40.

Would have to be at home because of funds.

Maybe an 80's theme? Fancy dress?

Any great ideas for food, music, decoration etc?

Help me make my mind up

Go for it. It would be great fun. I organised a surprise party for DH's 30th at home and it was great.

I did chilli, rice and jackets and some people brought a selection of desserts with them...easy! Big keg of beer and few bottles of wine and most people are happy.

80s theme sounds great fun.

southeastastra · 03/04/2009 12:54

ooh what date? i'm 40 in 8ish weeks too

neolara · 03/04/2009 12:56

So am I! I can't decide whether to have a party either. Or maybe just run away.

OrmIrian · 03/04/2009 12:59

Yes, a party. Too early for a BBQ? Or just do pans of chilli or casserole, bread, salad, make or buy some nice puds. Lots of wine. Ask people to bring wine. Best kind of party IMO is the one that starts about midday to cater for kids and carries on with different people popping in and out till midnight.

Then get your OH to take you out for a meal the next day

Mung · 03/04/2009 13:01

That sounds fab OrmIrian.

Are you sold yet MaggssS?

chimchar · 03/04/2009 13:01

do it!!!

we've been invited to a 40th party. the theme is samba...my friend is having a smaba band (her dh is in the band) and she has asked for no presents, but that everyone brings a plate of food to share and a bottle to drink.

MaggsS · 03/04/2009 13:03

29th may is DH's bday. He's a bit more than 40 mind you.

MaggsS · 03/04/2009 13:09

Not sure on the BBQ as you can never be sure of the weather on a bank holiday weekend and also I want Dh to enjoy it too (not poison the guests!!!!!!!)

Plenty of booze for sure.

Any other ideas for food as hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer so not sure about chilli etc

Ok then cold buffet food. That way you can keep some back in the fridge for later. Quiche, salad, cold meats, cheese, bread, baked potatoes etc.

Mung · 03/04/2009 13:25

Sounds like fun chimchar...does that also mean that you have to wear very little clothes, like the women in samba bands ?

Mung · 03/04/2009 13:25

sorry, not the women in the bands, but the woman that leads with all the head dress on, little corset thingy and high heels.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 03/04/2009 13:25

MaggsS we share a birthday! And MrOrmIrian. I'm a bit less than 40.

You should definitely have a party!

MaggsS · 03/04/2009 13:26

Good idea. I don't want to spend all the time in the kitchen do I

LOL at DH taking me out the next day.....I'll hopefully be in bed recovering

WOW TrillianEAstraEgg. That's so cool.

Are you having a party then?

TrillianEAstraEgg · 03/04/2009 13:52

It's not a big one for me this year, so if I do have a party it'll be smallish and organised closer to the time. Might just gather people for a pub-going-to.

MaggsS · 03/04/2009 14:03

Have a good time anyway

chimchar · 03/04/2009 15:41

lol mung.

no chance of me stripping! (although i do have the perfect proportion to go as official belly dancer!!)

MaggsS · 03/04/2009 18:49

Anyone else have any ideas for a great party?

OP posts:
MintyyAeroEgg · 03/04/2009 18:54

Karaoke? I wouldn't be seen dead doing it in a pub or in real "public" but think it would be fun in a laughing-at-oneself- ironic-sort-of-way at a friend's 40th.

Someone I know of had a wig party which was hilarious apparently.
