Murder Mystery parties - naff or fun?

Deliberating over doing one for my birthday - will my friends hate me and not want to do it? What would you think getting an invite to one?

Have been to a few - they can be fantastic, but only if everyone is comfortable with it and willing to get into the spirit of it. You need to choose your guests carefully

I've never had an invite to one without having known already that it was happening and having already said I'd be happy to go - and I knew all the other guest so knew it would be fun.

Agree with Aniyan. They can be great fun, I love them, but it's a pain if someone doesn't get into the spirit of it. Sound out your friends first.

ok I think I'll ask people to save the date and say it's going to be a murder mystery party, and gauge their excitement in it from their response! I think they're a pretty fun bunch of people, they will get into character etc.
