for dd's 1st birthday. Is in a function room at a hotel. We have about 25 under 5's and their parents coming to a teddy bear's picnic. Will be serving champagne and nibbles to adults and teddy bear themed party food on picnic rugs to children but need ideas for party games, decorations etc please. I think I am going to make teddy bear cookies decorated with each child's name instead of sending home party bags.

hide bears for the children to find?

could you find bear ears on a headband or bear masks?

tis a lovely idea for a party

duck duck goose (on a bear theme - 'growl, growl bear'?)
musical bumps / statues
red light / green light

Maybe too old for your crowd but:
-who's under the blanket (children in circle, 1 person chosen to be detective - wears a 'special' hat and goes out of room. Another child is chosen when detective goes out of room and gets hidden under a blanket in the middle of a circle. Detective comes back and everyone chants 'who's under the blanket?'. Detective then tries to guess who it is)

  • balloon volleyball. Taped line on floor. Half children on one side, half on the other. All children sitting. A balloon is put into air above them and each team tries to hit balloon onto other side (and keep it off the floor)
  • pass the keys. Blind folded child in middle of circle of children. A set of keys (or maybe for younger children a rattle) is passed around the circle as quietly as possible. Blindfolded child tries to guess by pointing where keys are.

face painting?

Oh yeah - hunt the treasure goes down well too.
Hide gold coins (or smarties or whatever), children find them. Hot tip: make it clear in beginning that all found ones will go into a central bowl, which will be divvied out at the end to make it fair - I usually hide about 2 coins per person so they don't get choccy overload)

ooh I could do we're all going on a bear hunt, hide a special bear and the person who finds it gets a prize. Teddy bear face painting v.good idea as must be relatively easy to paint a teddy face. Was thinking maybe pin the bow tie on the teddy instead of tail on donkey.
What about guess the name of a fabulous bear and whoever guesses correctly can take bear homw?
