I could just do a square cake with an icing triceratops shape or some such but would like something more adventurous.

All ideas gratefully received.

There's a cake shop near me and in the window they have a dinosaur cake. It's a big square with peaks for a volcano and there's rocks and stuff, and they've put plastic dinosaurs on it, with some greenery (real or not, I don't know!) Looks really good. So the cake itself is the landscape, if you see what i mean...

I was toying with this for dd recently.

I had thoughts of baking a square cake then cutting basic dino shape out, then using Toblerone pieces to make stegasaurus' plates along the back.

Sadly I was called to work unexpectedly the 2 days before her party, so bought one instead!

I did a dinosaur themed one for my ds's 3rd birthday. I made a normal round sponge, 2 cakes sandwiched with buttercream, then halved them, cut out the middle to make a semicircle shape and stood it on its end to make a sort of archway which I covered in "grass" (dessicated coconut coloured green) and upturned choc buttons to emulate the spiky feel of a dinosaur. I then bought a pack of little toy dinosaurs and positioned them around and about so it looked like a dinosaur scene and made lots of little buns as boulders. I know it's not a full dinosaur-shaped cake but it looked very effective and was appreciated by my son who then played with the toy dinosaurs afterwards!
Sorry this is long!

Excellent! A dinosaur landscape. Brilliant! We are not short of plastic dinos in our house

Toblerone would be good for steggie back too.

Thankyou all.
