My dd will be 5 on April 2nd and I'm racking my brains as to what to do for her birthday. last year we hired the village hall and had a fairy entertainer. It was OK but I don't want to repeat it .. wasn't that great.

I hate soft play too !

I'd like to do something active as it'll be a mix of boys and girls.
Any suggestions of where/ what to do ?

Last year we had snow so I need to consider the weather.

Help ! It's driving me nuts !!!!

How about a Bear Factory party in the Oracle Reading followed by lunch at Pizza Hut? Children get to make an animal of their choice (you give a budget to party organiser and I think they start at £8 a head, plus you needn't have to worry about party bags).

Alternatively, there is a brilliant miniture steam railway place adjacent to Prospect Park in Reading which you book for parties. The children get unlimited rides on 3 different trains / tracks and there is a hut to hold the birthday tea.

we are doing a DIY "be my bear party" for 7 yo

we have bought bear kits which only need to be stuffed, then zipped up and velcro flap fastened, and T shirts (for the bears) to decorate with fabric pens, the company send you all the invitations, and big paper gift bags for the bears to go in. works out £6.50 a head.

they just need a lolly and a bit of cake when they leave so no party bags/tatt to worry about

we have done a bear quiz about Pooh, paddington etc, hunt the bear cut outs, might also make some bear biscuits for them to ice.

What about a party at finkley down farm park, they offer catering I think, it is 4 years since I moved so it may have changed.

My DD went to a party here last September. She's well into princesses and absolutely loved riding on the trains with all of her friends. The men who drive the trains were also brilliant with the children.

Thanks all ... lots of food for thought.

I didn't know about the train thingy in Prospect park but will investigate the train ideas.

I love Finkley - just a tad worried about the weather. Hmm ... will think on that one.

The Lookout in Bracknell do pirthday parties - sort of a science/nature learning zone.
